Education

Admitted to CUPL in 1981 and graduated with bachelor’s degree in law in 1985; Began to study at the Postgraduate School, CUPL in 1988 and obtained master’s degree of procedural law in 1991, and then continued study at CUPL and finally got doctor’s degree of procedural law.

Work Experience

1985 – 1988 Worked at Shenyang;

1991 Joined the faculty of CUPL;

1993 Worked as a full-time lawyer at the CUPL Law Firm

2002 Worked as associate professor, master student supervisor at CUPL

Profession Affiliation: Lawyer at Junzejun Law Firm, Beijing  

Social Activities: As a lawyer, fulltime or part-time since 1993, so far Mr. Xu has handled over 100 civil, economic and criminal cases, especially criminal cases, like the well-known “Liu Xiaoqing's Tax Evasion Case”, “Shenyang Muma Case”.

During the period of SARS in 2003, to fight against the plague with people of Beijing City, Mr. Xu actively participated in analysis and research activities organized by the Lawyer’s Association, and drafted criminal legal opinion on SARS cases. He also risked his life to undertake legal aid for SARS-related crimes.

Major Publications including a number of books like Theory and Practice of Criminal Procedure of First Instance.

Research Projects:

(1) From 29 April to 11 May 2004, Mr. Xu participated in the project "Strengthening Defense for Death Penalty Cases" which was jointly organized by the Institute of Law of the Academy of Social Sciences, Wuhan University School of Law, the Criminal Defense Council, the EU, and the British-Chinese Association, and visited France, Holland and Belgium for the sake of study and research.

(2) The project funded by the Ford Foundation -- Research on Problems and Countermeasures of Criminal Defense, is also well under way.

Awards and Honors

(1) Honored “Excellent Director of Professional Committee”, and the Criminal Defense Committee was honored Best Professional Committee, by Beijing Law Association in 2002(2) Honored “Excellent Director of Professional Committee”, and the Criminal Defense Committee was honored Best Professional Committee, by Beijing Law Association in 2003(3) First Prize issued by Beijing lawyers Forum by the article On the Art of Cross-Examination -- Also on Lawyers’ Essential skills for Criminal Defense in 2002.

(4) Honor Title “Advanced Individual in Severe Measures against Grave Illegal and Criminal Activities” in 2003

(5) Honor Title “Advanced Individual of Beijing Judicial System” from year 2001 to 2003.
